FERAL NATURE / CELESTIAL SCOURGE at Goldie (Oslo, Norway)

Special Guest: OBSTRUKTION

It was as cold as you would expect on a winter night in Oslo, but that didn’t stop us from going to Goldie, a venue with a capacity for 500 people, where Feral Nature and Celestial Scourge were kicking off their Scandinavian tour, consisting of four dates, including gigs in Sweden and Denmark.
Obstruktion was the guest band invited to open the shows in Norway and Sweden. This quintet took the stage and quickly won over the audience with their relentless energy, crushing riffs, and hardcore attitude. Hailing from Gothenburg, the band has released two albums to date, “Monarchs of Decay” (2021) and “The End Takes Form” (2025). Musically, they are a metallic hardcore band, heavily influenced by old-school Swedish death metal, which makes them very interesting. It’s possible to hear elements from early Hatebreed and Entombed here, but these guys have their own sound, creating a sinister atmosphere that fits perfectly with the deep and dark themes they deal with in their lyrics. It was their fist time in Norway, and considering the good reception, it seems that it won’t be their last.

The local band Celestial Scourge took the stage approximately twenty minutes later to a cheering crowd. This brutal death metal outfit features members from bands such as Blood Red Throne, Vorbid, and Deception, among others. They’ve been active since 2021 and have released the EP “Dimensions Unfurled” in 2023 and their debut album “Observers of the Inevitable” last year via the Italian label Time to Kill Records. We were therefore treated to songs from both of these releases, including “The Advent of Deities”, “Elliptical Orbit” and “Vessels” (promo video here), and even a new one, “Spherical Aberrations”, which was very well received by the audience. Their music is fast and complex, and also features tempo changes, creating the necessary atmosphere for the cosmic-themed lyrics written by vocalist Eirik Waadeland (Ruun, Uma, Voidspire, Hermit Dreams), who impressed with his cavernous growls and screams.
After seeing these guys live, you realize they really love death metal. They know exactly what they’re doing, they’re brutal, technical, and they have everything we look for in a band of this genre. In other words, there’s future in the death metal scene with bands like this emerging, and that’s obviously good news.

Feral Nature closed the evening with the release concert for their new EP “Cradle of Twigs & Bone”, for which they recently released a video for the title track. This international outfit based in Oslo is composed of Selma Johanne Bahner (vocals), Robert Hamilton (guitars and vocals), William Morris (bass and vocals) and Mathias Myren (drums) and is one of the most interesting live bands in the local underground scene right now.

Their sound is a blend of chaotic hardcore and metal that keeps the audience hooked at all times. The vocalist Selma has a defiant attitude on stage and knows how to put on a show. She chooses to interact with the audience directly, physically. This might involve jumping off the stage at any moment, crowdsurfing, screaming in their faces, or even standing or walking on top of them (!), all while screaming her lungs out. She brings that sense of “danger” and tension where you don’t know what’s going to happen next, something that’s missing in most bands these days. The band delivered a very intense and raw performance in which they played all the songs from their new EP, but also from their earlier material, including the single from 2024, “Unleash” (video here), which was one of the highlights of an evening that came to an end with “Crown Nothing”. All three bands on the bill lived up to expectations, so do yourself a favor and check them out if you haven’t already!
