Album Reviews: ONE MIND MINISTRY – “Gates of Time”

ONE MIND MINISTRY

“Gates of Time”

(Independent)

by Jorge Patacas

Twelve years after their formation, the German quintet One Mind Ministry finally released their first full-length album “Gates of Time”, which was recorded, mixed and mastered at Soundlodge Studios in Germany. Right from the start with “No Funeral”, we get an in-your-face dose of extreme metal with thrashy riffs and 90s black metal-inspired melodies courtesy of guitar players Havoc and Sacul, while Al Sahmut on bass brings the groove and Kaos does a phenomenal job on drums both in the faster and mid-tempo parts. All of them can be heard thanks to a clean and impressive production.
Vocalist Skullsplitter honours her artistic name with crushing vocals that shift from death metal growls to black metal screams exactly as the song structures demand. She’s been around for many years, so you may know her from bands like Debt of Nature, Music from the Void, Execrate, Nocturnal Blasphemies or Sabiendas.
The songs follow one another almost without a break and a certain amount of aggression and melody is present in all of them, but I would highlight “Beholder”, “Gates of Time” and “Silence” as three of the best tracks on the album.
This band is definitely underrated and it’s quite unbelievable to see they’re unsigned. A solid album. Totally recommended!
