LUCIFER’S CHILD – NERVOCHAOS at Revolver (Oslo, Norway)

Only a few months after their impressive performance at Midgardsblot festival, the Hellenic black metal outfit Lucifer’s Child returned to Norway, but this time as part of their first headlining tour called “The Fall of the Rebel Angels Tour” with the Brazilian death metallers Nervochaos acting as special guests.

The doors at Revolver opened at 20:00 as expected and the South Americans hit the stage twenty five minutes later. Last time I saw these guys was seven years ago and back then they had a complete different lineup which included Cherry (R.I.P.) on guitar. The only remaining member from that era is the founder and legendary drummer Eduardo Lane (also owner of Tumba Productions), who’s clearly driven by passion and dedication and remains active despite all the lineup changes the band has undergone over the years. Besides Lane, the current incarnation of Nervochaos consists of Allan Marcus and Rodrigo Augusto on guitars, Hareton on bass and Vic Ferreira on vocals.
The five-piece delivered an intense and powerful performance which included all-time classics like “For Passion Not Fashion” and “Pazuzu is Here”, while their latest album “Chthonic Wrath” (2023) was represented by “Lullaby of Obliteration”. The set was quite short, so I guess it must have been difficult to pick up the songs for this tour having such a vast catalogue (11 studio albums since 1996), but they managed to play a bit from all eras and the audience dug it. Ferreira clearly enjoys having a strong connection with the fans, he even got off the stage a couple of times and screamed the lyrics at some of them. All in all, the band sounded tight and we had our dose of old school death metal with some thrashy riffs and aggression.

Led by former Rotting Christ guitarist, George Emmanuel, Lucifer’s Child is definitely a band that delivers their best at live shows when it comes to both music and stage attitude. Even though not too many people showed up this time, probably because it was Monday evening after a long weekend, this didn’t affect the performance at all. On the contrary, the contagious energy on display and the connection between the band and the fans was fantastic and made it feel almost like the place was packed. After the first couple of songs, Emmanuel asked the lighting technician to turn off the front lights, so the only ones left until the end of the show were the red ones behind the drum kit, making it more difficult to take photos for this review, but it worked much better in terms of creating atmosphere. These guys deliver black metal and they do it the right way with Emmanuel’s surging riffs and melodies, Kostas Gerochristos’ thick bass, pounding drums by Nick Vell (great drummer!) and Marios Dupont’s remarkable vocals that work perfectly in cohesion with the overall sound. They played songs from both studio albums “The Wiccan” (2015) and “The Order” (2018), including the latter’s title track which everyone screamed along with the band. A great performance that lasted an hour, but felt like a blink of an eye. Be sure to check them out whenever they’re around your area!
